Why we do what we do
Channapatna popularly known as ‘toy city’ or ‘Gombegala Nagara’ in Kannada is a tiny city in Karnataka, famous for their handmade toys. Artisans in Channapatna have been passionately preserving this 200-year-old Persian art of making toys from soft wood of trees.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit India's local toy industry hard and as business shrank, the number of artisans in Channapatna declined. Today, there are only about 1,500 of them.
In our quest to be #VocalforLocal, we are owning the duty to preserve this dying art form and lend a helping hand to the hundreds of families who are being forced to move out of their traditions.

Each Vocal for Local Toy is handcrafted painstakingly by our partner artisans.
The beauty of a handcrafted product is that no two products are the same. Since they are not machine-made, each creation has its own unique character. Any variations in colour, dimensions, etc. are part of this unique character
In case of the wooden products, the ‘marks/stains’ are the grains that are found naturally on the wood and not defects.
The colours of the delivered product might slightly vary from the one seen online
The wooden items made using the Channapatna craft are fragile and are best suited to keep indoors to help prevent fading of the natural colours
The colour can chip on hard impact against surfaces
We are a boot-strapped social enterprise with limited hands. Our sole aim is to give as many livelihoods as possible to the artisans so that they do not leave these crafts. In an effort to do this, like most social enterprises we are a very lean team where everyone multi-tasks. We are hence not in a position to afford a no-questions-asked returns policy. However, we are going to have a no-questions-asked returns policy assuming that everyone will be conscious and fair.
